  LOGOLOG
a weblog of wordplay by Eric Harshbarger

Welcome

I guess you can now argue that I have finally started a "blog" of sorts [gasp!] Yes, in December of 2005, years after every kid and her younger brother have discovered how to make daily posts about how much school sucks, and how they hate broccoli, I've started keeping a web log of sorts.

Actually, I had a web log of sorts years ago already, but stopped when I got bored with it or when it eventually felt a little too egocentric. I would update it maybe every two weeks or so, and I'd like to think the entries were witty or enlightening (I was, by that time, out of school, and never typed about my opinion of broccoli).

Having had personal webpages somewhere on the internet since 1994, it should be easy to believe that web logging is not the newest idea to me. These days it seems quite pedestrian.

But, what can I say, I've started one up again. It is very specific in nature. It's about words, wordplay, and a general entertainment of the (English) language. I may, occasionally, drift into numberplay as well, but I think I'll be able to stay pretty focused. I have no idea how often I'll update it. And, I may decide to delete the whole thing on a whim.

Topics may be very in-depth, or quite terse and trivial.

For example, the quick, word-related snippet for this entry will be the fact that, while watching an NFL game on television a couple of weeks ago, I noticed that one of the players for the New York Giants has the last name of: UMENYIORA. Surely this is one of the few surnames that contains exactly one instance of each vowel (plus a 'y')?

Yep, that's the kind of stuff you can expect if you keep coming back this website.

Welcome to LOGOLOG.

-- Eric

P.S.: as far as the "tools" I'm using to create this blog? I'm using the same things I used 8 years ago. Hand-coded CGI/Perl scripts, a shell prompt, and vi. Yes, I'm gleefully that far behind the times.

Comments about this article:
Oh, please don't erase it. I've been ill this week spending about 23/24 hours each day in bed or in the sofa. Today I found this logolog when I was searching for cool Lego-creations (grandfatherclock), and I had a look at your puzzle things. I find your work (much of it anyway) really interesting. But in some cases I must say that I really wonder how your brain is working. Is it "on" 24 hours a day?
