Pangrams and Movies (redux)

Two months ago I wrote about how ecstatic I was that the Top-13 movies of the U.S. weekly box office were pangrammic. Something that had only happened twice before (at least as far back as I've checked the charts -- since early 1982), and that time was the first time it had happened in over eighteen years.

Well, two months later, it has happened again.

Here are the Top-13 movies in the U.S. for the weekend of 8 March 2013:

  1. Oz: The Great and Powerful
  2. Jack the Giant Slayer
  3. Identity Thief
  4. Dead Man Down
  5. Snitch
  6. 21 And Over
  7. Safe Haven
  8. Silver Linings Playbook
  9. Escape From Planet Earth
  10. The Last Exorcism Part II
  11. A Good Day to Die Hard
  12. Life of Pi
  13. Quartet
Some interesting notes about this:

The independent movie Quartet made this possible by providing the lone "Q". The movie has been hovering in the 13-20 ranking range for several weeks now. According to Variety magazine results, it beat the #14 movie this week (Dark Skies) by only $598.

The "X" appears only in The Last Exorcism Part II, will likely fall far next week, and be out of the picture.

Amazingly, twenty of the twenty-six letters of the alphabet appear in the top two movies.

So, this has now happened twice within the past two months. But will we ever see a Top-12 or better pangrammic Box Office?

Rest assured, I'll be keeping a lookout for it.
